Okay, so I have a Standard P Bass in Candy Apple Red. I want to add my son's footprint to the back of the head stock. (He's just under month old). Any suggestions? I was planning on an ink pad and a protective coat of clear lacquer or something. Or on the pickguard. I don't know. I play fingerstyle nearly exclusively so the pickguard has zero scratches. Any help would be much appreciated.

Liam

Cool idea. I would vote for the pickguard option. You could keep the pickguard later separately from the bass. There are many companies that can make custom guards from photos etc. Greasy Groove is one that comes to mind.

Another option is get a clear guard, and place under the guard a copy of the foot prints.

Keep us updated!

I was thinking something a little more DIY, less cafepress, if you catch what I'm trying to get across. I am liking the pickguard option. But the backside of the headstock is always facing me. A little more personal.

Why not do both the headstock and pickguard? Little guy has two feet, right? He'll look funny with only one blue foot anyway.

I like where your head is, Ox. That may be something to pursue.

Run a series of footprints up the back of the neck, like tracks leading to the headstock. :)

If you have access to a high-quality color printer, the clear guard option is real nice. I've seen some impressive DIY custom jobs. Position the pic around the pickup cavity, a little work with a razor blade, and you have a one-of-a kind.

This is the first time I've ever tried things like this so I'm asking as many questions as I can, being cautious. I like the feel of my neck, so I think, as bad $@! as it seems, I don't wanna do the neck idea. However, around the upper side of the pickguard, on the body itself seems awesome.

I like the clear guard idea. Gail Ann Dorsey has one on her favourite Stingray, Marilyn, with a photo of Ms Monroe underneath. She's had it like that for years, and it still looks good.
