I have a 90's Precision Bass Lyte, made in Japan with PJ setup, active electronics, a jazz bass neck, and 1/2 the weight of a standard precision bass. Great feel for an old guy like me.

The 4 controls are as follows: a)
a) volume control c) d)
b) ballance control between the P and J pickups b)
c) and d) unknown, but the are probable tone for each pickup

the tone controls don't seem to be that effective, and I am planning to install a set of
EMGs

comments or suggestions?
what about the enhanced tone control module that EMG offers?

You have a master volume and a pickup blend control with the first 2 knobs.

The remaining 2 knobs affect the 2-band EQ with separate bass and treble controls. No need to purchase a new preamp unless you decide to upgrade the pickups with a set of EMGs and install an 18V power supply. If you want a 3-band EQ, you can replace the stock treble pot with a stacked control knob for treble and mid.

An active/passive switch might be useful if the batteries die during a gig.

I've a P-Bass Lyte Deluxe with the humbucker in the bridge and a 3-band EQ with a 5th knob for the midrange frequencies. I use this bass several times. Feel free to note the P-Lyte Deluxe I'm talking about is not mine, my brother purchased it in the UK a couple of years ago.

I have an '85 MIJ with Mahogany body. I agree with you, Tom - everything works with this bass - the looks, the weight and balance - but there was something lacking with the sound. I had someone put in an Audere Classic 4-band pre - and WOW! The difference is night and day!
I'd suggest replacing the electronics first since the pre is the weakest part of the package. The Audere gives tremendous range over bass - mid and high freqs. In fact, the amount of control is almost too much - you just have to tweak the knobs every so slightly and the bass comes alive.
With a nicely shielded cavity - and some good strings you can get almost any sound you can imagine out of the Lyte. Definitely a keeper!
Keep us posted on how it goes.

It's possible to use an 18V power supply on a P-Lyte Deluxe? Audere offers a 4-band EQ powered by a pair of 9V batteries.
