I bought a 2010 american p bass two months ago and y play fingerstyle. I realized that while playing the A string at any fret there was a slight buzzing sound that I wanted to correct.

I followed up this website'2 "How to guide":

1. I set the relief of neck ratius at .014".

2. Set action at 6/64" for E and A string, set action at 5/64" for D and G string.

3. Set the pick up height at 7/64" (bass) and 6/64" (treble).

The neck ratius was at 0.10"and the neck pickup was too far from the first and second strings before i followed the previous described steps. I had a very positive result: E and A string sound more round and precise and the buzz seemed to disappear.

Later on, I thought that a neck ratius at .014" was too much and I set it at 0.10" back again adjusting the action as described in point #2 and tune. At this point found that the bass OK too except a very disappointing buzz at the 3rd fret on the A string while playing a quaver and a silent quaver.

The string height is OK for me now, so... how could I fix this?

1. Reseting the relief at 0.014"?
2. Is 0.020" relief too much? Why?
3. Could it be a faulty string?

Did you have any buzzing problem like this?

Help!

Could be how the string is wrapped at the headstock. Try holding the open A past the nut. If that stops the buzz..try re-doing the way it is wrapped.

Does the noise show up when amplified? If so, does it show up with some of the treble rolled off? Basses do make a little noise/overtones.

I'd leave the neck alone for a good while after that much adjustment. You haven't over-done it yet..but any more is too much.

Raise the "A" bridge saddle bit by bit...until the buzz is gone. Again, the key to this is not messing with the neck anymore for a while.

Do you have the original string on there or have you put new strings on? The nut may be cut too shallow. You can try to shim the string with a small piece of something.

I have the original strings. i Think that it has do to with my playing tech. The buzz happens when I release my finger from the string after I hit the string with maybe to much attack. I silent the figure with another finger and there's no buzz.

When I play continuously the fret that is problematic I don't get the buzz, only when I release the finger quickly. I will need to silent the string with another finger.

I also tried setting the string height at 10/64". The buzz is quieter at this point but it is too high this way, I prefer to keep at 7/64" for A and E string.

The closer you play toward the bridge...the more noise. Could be just that.

I've always had weird buzzing problems with Fenders. Just a slight adjustment in the saddle height and slight intonation adjudtment sent the E string on my 08 Am standard into buck nutty rattles (not fret noise) that I assume are coming from the bridge. Mine are actually worse on the fretted B ( on the E string)> any ideas?
