Who is your main influence on the bass? Mine is the late Dee Murray. He played bass for the Spencer Davis Group, Procol Harum, but during Elton John's heyday, Dee was his bass player.

I loved Dee's flowing basslines and his beautiful backing vocals.

Listen to the early EJ (late 60's to the late 70's) and you'll hear Dee. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 45 from a stroke. Gone way too soon.

I quess my first influence in bass guitar was John Deacon. I love the way the P-Bass sounded and his style of playing. Later on Tiran Porter of the Doobie Brothers and his riffs may an inpact on me, along with the Bassist of the Eagles.

Are you talking about Randy Meisner or Timothy B. Schmidt....the Eagles.

I always like Randy's approach on the bass and his vocals over Timothy B. When I first heard "I Cant Tell You Why", I thought it was sung by Anne Murray! LOL!

I'm not sure which one all I know is during the time they were touring and recording albums in the mid 70's untill they quit, the bass parts is what gave me influence. I know they change bassist during this time I think. LOL

That was Randy Meisner in the 70's..."Take It to the Limit" was one big hit that he sang...he has a high voice too but I liked his style on the bass as well. I really don't care for Timothy B Schmidt's voice especially since I thought he was Anne Murray!

My main influence is Roger Waters of Pink Floyd :)

And to mentain one of my Polish favourite is: Lech Janerka - he's really great bassist and singer, maybe he is not known outside of Poland, but trust me he is awesome :D

My main influence would be Jeordie White. After seeing him and NIN perform in concert in 2005, I knew that I wanted to play the bass. No, I had to play bass. Have always been, and forever will be, a Floyd/Roger Waters fan, but seeing that NIN concert did something to me. I only wish that I would have been inspired 10 years ago. Better late than never!

My first influences for bass were a local player, Teddy Gentry (Alabama), and James Jamerson. It was actually years before I knew Jamerson was the man responsible for most of those great Motown bass lines.

The influences today are the same, but with a few more:
Bee Spears (Willie Nelson)
Roger "Bob" Wills (Alan Jackson)
Bob Moore

John Deacon made me want to play the bass guitar first! bt he is not my main inspiration, bt he is a very good bassist, and i have always wanted n now hav a precision! sting is probably my fav coz he brought the bass up front. the bass is just as cool, if not cooler than the electric. recently, john taylor or duran duran is great, has gd technique and funky rhythms, and also adam clayton is gd. gd tone, gd p bass and love his style

Not sure I have one for bass, I've not heard anyone play bass like I do, not bragging at all. I just play it like a lead minor penatonic scale with a lot of deep tone. If you know anyone that does that, please let me know. Would love to hear it.

For me, I would say it's Mr Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. I respect how his unique style of playing bass, and his unique sound. He's also an excellent entertainer., and he made me start playing bass.

Mr Duff Mckagan also has some influence on me.. I like how he makes simple basslines which accompany the other instruments very well.
