BTW there is a fantastic book on the 1966 Hybrid/Slab basses.

The Mighty Hybrid and The Keeper of the Slabs (by Barrie Midford-Millership)

This is a fantastic hardbound and squareshaped book with 253 Pages and numerous photos on the mythic 66 Fender Precision Hybrid Bass or also known as Slab.
What is the big advantage and the plus of this book compared towards other publications on the topic?
Well, the book is written by no one else than the person, that originally ordered the Hybrid Bass as special order back in 1966 with Fender.

I went for the specs that will be closest to the original means no hot pickups from other make or so....
But I can tell you this bass is really brutal. Had my first rehearsal yesterday with my WHO tribute and this one really screams.....

I bet. 60's Precisions were no joke. When the Custom Shop tries to make things vintage accurate they do an absolutely amazing job. I was mainly wondering what neck shape you went with. I've noticed that the 60's Oval C has been popular among the CS builders lately. Not sure when that was a popular shape. However, I played one of the "Custom Shop 60's Precisions" they did last year or the year before with that neck shape and was pretty impressed by it. The neck was super fast. Just wondering if you had went with that or the more traditional 57-63 thick C. Either way she is absolutely gorgeous and from headstock to strap button. Congrats!

The three-knob P-Bass looks a bit suspicious, there's no additional pickup in the bridge, Fender didn't release active basses until the early 1980s. I suspect the bass has been modified with a custom active 2-band preamp.

Here's a pic of Andy Rourke from The Smith's with his. A very cool and great sounding Precision to be sure.

KingOfPain,

It has a 60ies Oval C. I also have a 64 Time Machine Teambuildt which I have handpicked out of 15 P's and this one comes Very close to the Slab although Alder body and rosewood board, but also Very agressive.

As for the 3 knob Slab pictured in the book cover this is Entwistles Original bass which was found by the author of the book(and the Inventor of the Slab) and Restored back to the JE configuration. jE Had this bass modified to a Stereo output, see the old photos.

Book sounds very cool based on the Amazon write up and two reviews. Hinted to my bride that it would make a nice gift. Thanks for bringing the book to our attention.

I would love to see one of these slab Precision basses. It would be great to find out the differences and similarities.
