Hi, I am interested in knowing the country of origen and the year made of a 1962 reissue pbass. The serial number on the neck attachment plate is v178604. I checked the Fender serial number page and it is a little vague reguarding where it was made. Are/were vintage reissues produced in Japan and Mexico as well as the USA? I thought they were all done here, but the is no mention of it on the headstock as in some of there other instruments.
Thanks for any help.

Dear mate, it is not possible to date an American Vintage Series from the serial number engraved on the neck plate.
But you can try to take off the neck. There should be the manifacture date stamped on the heel of the neck or in the neck pocket.
Or you can try to write to Fender customer service.
Keep us informed.

Any true Vintage reissue 1962 Precision bass is a USA made instrument AFAIK.
A serialized neck plate is a USA feature on the Vintage Reissue basses and it is never done on a bass made in a different country.

All basses made in other countries use serial numbers that are placed on necks and not on neck plates.

I hope that this clarifies things for you.

Bcbassman, thank you for your input that explains this to me. As I was primarily interested the the origin/ country you cleared this up. Mine has the v- serial numbers on the neck plate- USA made.
Thanks again.
