Hm I'm not entirely sure what you're on about but if its any help I always ran the cable though my strap, over the strap button then to the jack to keep it out the way on my P bass copy thing.

Are you somehow confusing the angled-in "Frenched" input jack on the Stratocaster with the input jack on the Jazz Bass?

Because the Jazz input jack is straight in, just like the Precision, except it's on the face on the instrument...... except for, like, the American Deluxe, where they use that hole in the control plate for an extra little knob...

Or a JB style bass by a company such as Lakland or w/e (not saying they use strat style jacks, just an example of a company who make jazz bass-like guitars).

When I was a guitar n00b I hated the idea of a face mounted jack input but now I dont care :D
