As both a precision bass fan and a Waters fan, this is exciting news.
Though I am not a fan of the black bridge/knobs. It is what it is, a unique bass configuration from the get-go. No need to change anything, except strings maybe.

However, I feel that there are others that need/deserve to be reconized also by Fender.

It could be a start.

I agree it is what it is and I liked it the first time I saw it. The price seems to be in line with what it is also.

You know, some days I regret selling my black & maple P. But my logic was that they are a dime a dozen, I mean Fender(or whomever) will always have black as a standard color.

As far as the RW P-Bass, I doubt that I would get one. I am not a fan of the black bridge or knobs and the neck width is 1.75, which I do not favor.

When the time comes to get a black & maple P, I will #1 Look for a used MIA, #2 Look for a new MIM, #3 Look for a new MIA.

It's all fun though. I've been playing the snot out of the Jazz lately, bridge pick-up rolled off though.

What's next from Fender? A Guy Pratt "Betsy" signature model Jazz Bass with EMGs, perhaps? Or an exact copy of his battered old sunburst 1958 Precision used on the P.U.L.S.E. concerts of 1994 at Earl's Court?

Roger used an early 1970's black P-Bass with white pickguard, thumbrest, chrome bridge and pickup ashtray covers, strung with flatwound strings.

Thanks Chrome, I am aware of that.

Waters went thru several color combinations of P-Basses before settling on the black and maple. And around 1975/6 was when the black pickguard was added. However, I have not seen any photos of Waters with his bass having black knobs and bridge. Maybe this is a new thing for him for his "Wall" tour?
It's all good.

I like Roger Waters, but I'm not gonna get a bass just because it has his name on it, there's nothing especially exceptional abou this bass. I'd just rather get a regular American Standard. I'd rather get a Tony Franklin fretted P-bass, not because of the name, but because I like the P/J configuration with the 3-way pickup switch, along with the amber/maple finish.

Roger's own P-Bass uses a regular Fender pickup and chrome hardware. We never saw him using Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-3 quarter-pounds and black metallic parts on his axe.

As for the headstock logo, Waters apparently got rid of the original CBS decal. Phil Taylor later sticked a late 50s "spaghetti"-style on the peghead. The ashtray covers and the thumbrest were dropped and the original bone nut replaced by a new nut made up from solid brass.

I didn't realize you sold it Zod...You're a J man in the closet ;) Nah, j/k, I know you're a big guy, so the J neck is not what you look for. I got some news to tell ya, I'll email you on it.

I don't know for sure, but at the list price, I doubt it is MIA. I would guess that it is MIJ like my Steve Harris, or maybe even MIM.

Guy Pratt deserves a Fender signature model, which would supposedly be either a burgundy '63 Jazz or a sunburst '58 Precision (a faithful replica of the bass used at Earls Court in 1994), though he actually uses two early 1960s sunburst rosewood-neck models with a tortoise guard (a Precision and a stack-knob Jazz, both made in 1961).

May i suggest one more Precision artist to get a signature model: Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys, and his Lake Placid Blue RW bass around 1968.
He isn`t/wasn`t so greatly acclaimed bassist, but when i saw Beach Boys in concert in Helsinki 1967, i thought he played quite accurately.
Of course, Carol Kaye would be a natural artist name in this occasion, if she wasn`t working since long time for Ibanez.
Why not Brian Wilson too? He is a great songwriter, producer and more, and he wrote all those bass parts to Carol Kaye to play.
That would be a white with rw neck one.

In that last pic post above by Zod, those sure look like Quarter Pounder pole pieces to me. I have no idea otherwise and don't know of any history on the bass, but those larger pole pieces sure stick out to me.
