I recently picked up a 95-96 MIA Fender P Bass and I was wondering if anyone could give me more info on the finish and pickguard. Was this something that Fender offered as a stock finish and pickguard or was a refinish? pic is here:

Thanks!

Looks like standard Fender "Candy Apple Red" finish with an aftermarket (i.e., not stock) pearloid pickguard.

After comparing it to several different finishes on different Fender guitars, I am sure it's Crimson Burst. You can't really see the wood grain in the picture, but it's there. Plus it was a color that was offered in the 90's.

I don't know, it still looks like CAR to me, but, regardless, Crimson burst or CAR, it's stll a standard Fender color and not a refin

I'd say it's candy apple red.
A "burst" color would blend to dark around the edges. This bass does not do that.

And I can see what looks like to me a metallic sheen in the highlights.
