Hi,

Im wanting to sell a bass guitar that has come to my possession. However im not a bass guitarist and need assistance in identifying this bass.

On the pegbox its written "Fender - Precision Bass". Everyone knows (even me) that Fender make premium instruments, however I have my doubts that this is a genuine Fender, but rather a Replica of the model.

Id like to know if this an authentic fender or a replica so that I sell the instrument at an appropriate price and not misinform/mislead any potential buyers about the description of the instrument.

Ive uploaded some pictures for you all to look if possible.

Thanks for your help.

A couple of things about the neck don't look standard to me:

1) The graphite or black plastic nut;
2) the spokewheel truss rod adjustment at the heel of the neck is not a Fender feature;
3) The '70s-style decal appears to be affixed on top of the finish if I can see the reflections correctly;
4) the bridge appears to be after-market.

To know for sure, you would need to take the neck off and show the end of the heel and the neck pocket, that's where some identifying marks are usually located.

But at first blush, this would appear to be a very nice bass built from after-market parts.

To me, the neck plate doesn't look right, either. I could be wrong, though.

Thanks for the replies, I understand it can be quite difficult to tell much just by looking at pictures so thanks for your help.

Do you think it would be worth me taking it to a guitar shop and ask what they think about it?

Bathead, you are 100% right. Neckplate, neck and who knows whatelse is not original. It's definitely a Frankenbass mate. Dunno what is worth. I think not more of 150 bucks (but I'm not sure, I don't live in USA)... :cry:
Keep it, it has a cool ash body. It's a good looking bass.

What is printed on the back of the headstock. I can't make it out but something is there.

The pickups appear to be Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounders.

Good eye. One more thing I notice is there is also no 19th fret marker.
