Why is it that everything has 20 frets? My dream would be a P-Bass with at least 22, preferably 24. It's getting so bad I was considering a Gibson Les Paul Money Bass with 24 frets.

why do you need more frets?

You can buy replacement 24 fret necks for fender basses too, and I'm sure some fender's come with 24 frets.

I don't know about the pbass, but they have jbass with it. My Power JB Spc has 22. Question is why do you need the 24 frets? Do you really need the 2 octaves? I used to think that too, but I don't even come close to using 22 frets, so I'm happy with 22 and 20. Most of the Ibanez basses I've had, has 24 frets, again, I don't go that high on the neck to use it.

Ditto, I very rarely find myself thinking 'I wish I had 22 frets!' :)

I have a 5 string Squier MB-5 with 22 frets, over the years I've had Peaveys Yamaha and Jazz basses with 22 and 24 frets, when you have them you get used to them I guess. Playing three pieces makes for a lot more improvisation on my part as a bass guitarist. Thanks for all your opinions, always appreciated. After I read the posts I did find a place on line that has replacement necks, .

Thanks again,

Ron

Ron, Warmoth sells 24 fret necks for Fenders too, if you're looking still. My Stu Hamm (1st edition) was 24 frets, but it was also a 30" scale bass.

Thanks Rez, that was the site I saw the necks at. They have quite an assortment. I'm happy with my bass the way it is but, how many players are completely satisfied all of the time?

Should I make a change, it will probably be a 24 fret maple neck all the way.

Thanks for the info.

Ron

Anything beyond the 7th fret is waste of space ;P

Everyone has a right to their opinion, sometimes it's good to move beyond ones comfort zone.
