Hi y'all. New to this forum and have a question that I've not been able to find answer on yet!

I’ve been using Rotosound Swing Bass 66 stainless 45-105’s (RS66LD set) on nearly all my basses over the last 10 years. All of these basses have been strings through bridge.

I have just bought a 1999 American Standard P Bass which only allows you to string thru body (which I appreciate all the benefits of), but just wondered if the RS66LD set fits the particular thru body stringing of this guitar i.e. the silks at headstock end don’t end up sat on the nut, or the E string has trouble making the bend through the body and over bridge? I know Fender ship these (string thru body) basses now with round core strings with a taperwound E (Fender 8250M set).

There must be loads of players with US P Basses using SwingBass 66? Anyway if anybody could let me know if I will be absolutely fine with these or not (the RS66LD set), that would be much appreciated.

My MIM P Bass I have at the moment is strung with Fender 9050 flats, so I don’t have any spare Roto Swing Bass strings to borrow to test.

Cheers

Keith

No trouble at all! I even trimmed them a little before and also the bend wasn't bad at the bridge. The only time I've had trouble with the bend was on some medium fender flat wounds. Man talk about tension! But they fit and sound great on my 08 American Standard Precision. I wouldn't put any other kind of round wound string on my bass!

Thanks precisionpunk, much appreciated. That's the first bit of useful information I've had regarding the pairing of what are arguably the world's most popular bass guitar and bass strings! Even Rotosound and several string suppliers have not given me any helpful info. I just want to make sure the RS66LD (long scale) set will work 'thru-body' before I fork out for a few packets.

Cheers

Keith

Well, thanks to precisionpunk's recommendation I put on a set of Rotosound Swing Bass 66 45-105 standard long scale strings and they fit perfectly! In fact I'd go so far as to say this is the best I've gotten these strings to fit on any bass yet. They make the bend in the thru-body stringing absolutely fine and the silked part of the strings towards the tuners starts a good inch past the nut, so doesn't interfere with the nut. Plus also on the E string, the fat part of the string doesn't end up being wrapped around the post at all (which I've found on quite a few other basses).

So there you have it, regular Roto Swing Bass 66 45-105's fit an American Standard P Bass strung thru body, spot on!

They sound the business too (for my rock & funk tastes)!
