I have a P-Bass and i currently have GHS pressure wound strings on it that I really like but there old now and I need some new strings. I play mainly rock and was wondering what you guys would recomend for strings, I really like the GHS pressure wound strings I have on it right now so if you could tell me any kinds of strings that would be similar to them it would be great. Thanks

I have no experience with the strings you mention. I have D'addario Chromes(ECB81) on my P-bass and am happy with them. I have seen alot of others using these strings on their P-basses too. I have Ernie Ball regular and hybrid slinkys on my other 2 basses. It's sometimes difficult to experiment with different strings to find out what you like because bass strings are too damn expensive sometimes.JMO

In my opinion, Rotosounds are the best.

I'm a huge fan of Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys. They are great stings and they're pretty inexpensive too. Plus I try and support them when ever I can, because when I went on a trip to Zimbabwe they donated some music supplies to bring to some of the local people there.

Try a heavier gauge GHS Bass 'Boomers' for a heavier rock bottom. Played 'em for years, stand up well to repeated abuse.

8) I use GHS 3050's on all of my basses except my frettless and those are GHS 3060'S. I get great sound from them, they last forever and they feel smooth as silk for half the money of Rotosounds. Check Samash.com for them.

For more Classic Rock, I like the EB Regular Slinky's. For hard rock Dean Markley Skullbusters.

I always used Rotosounds Swing Bass Strings. I may have a lot of edge (high end) but after a while they sound perfect~!!!!!!

In the same topic.
Would you advise me to keep the strings fender gave to the new American Precission Bass, or I should change them for the better ones?

I like blue steel, but maybe those Rotosound would be better?

The type of sound you are looking for will help dictate the string:

flat-wound

half-round

round-wound

The names above are listed from darkest to the brightest.
The emphasis on low mids, crisp highs, etc...can be drastically altered depending on the type of string you chose.

Also, the brand will have an influence on the sound. This will depend on the material (steel, nickel, nickel plated, black nylon, etc...), size and type of the core (hex or round).

Bass Player magazine had an issue with a rather large string 'run-down.' I don't remember the 'back' issue date. Either way, Fender has a decent description listed with their bass strings.
Lastly check out the strings your favorite bassists use to get the sounds you desire. The rest is up to your fingers and technique.
