O.K., I know of at least 47 things but, when they're just on and tuned right, they feel so good.

actually i am not a fan of new strings... they sound too bright and crisp for me....i prefer them after about 2-3 weeks of play.....

I wholeheartedly agree with both of you, they do sound better after they've settled in. I do like the bright, crisp sound. When the new strings go on, it's time to play some Who and Rush.

As for the bass...nothing is better than a new set of GHS 45's. But I do believe Fender's sound better with rather old strings. I think for the most part Fender basses are the only ones that do....

Is there anything better than new strings?

Two chicks making out while you're putting the new strings on. 8)

For me, with a P-Bass, old-ass, broken-in flats are the way to go.

Now on a Jazz, fresh rounds sound goooooood.

And on the chicks, whatever is fine with me.

Good to see you Zod, it's been a while. I have to state, I knew of 47 0ther things better than new strings, my life isn't that pitiful.

I had Rotosound flats on and they were just too hard and tight, I was concerned for the neck. I had a set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys laying around from when I bought the bass almost three years ago, still in the pack. They won't last long but will be o.k. until I send in an order somewhere online.

I would prefer at least 2-3 weeks old flatwounds.. to eliminate the zing in them.. esp. after first trying on D'addario Chromes, they sounded like roundwounds..

Ox,
yeah I saw that about the 47 other in the OP, but I had to be my goofy self and put the ladies in there.
Not a fan of Roto flats either.

Always appreciate your humor Zod, the Rotosounds really weren't too bad, I only use rounds on my VM Jazz, they had their own unique tone, just too stiff.

Eye, I've used other flats in the past and, they co-operated nicely, not this time.

Going off on a journey today, I'll be near a couple stores I rarely get to visit. I doubt I'll find anything interesting but, you never know

Played a used Fender MIM Fretless at Guitar Center in Youngstown, Ohio. It was sunburst with a rosewood fretboard, $349.95. It was a very nice guitar, needed set up and new strings but all in all it was nice, no damage, it was well taken care of.

Maybe there's a fretless in my future, if there is it will be an American Standard.
