Just a curiosity I thought you may be interested:

I have a blue flower pbass reissue. Got it in '04. I love the finish, but not the p-up. Tried Fralin p-up and had all the wiring beefed up and pots replaced with what was used in the '51 pbasses. But I still like the tone of the Amervintage '62 reissue I have the best. Less noisy too.

So I got the blue flower routed (by a very experienced, authorized Fender serviceman I know) and having an Amervintage '62 pup dropped in.

I am not worried about keeping the value, as I would never sell the flower bass because I love the finish. Just thought I'd tweak it closer to a '62 in hopes of getting better tone with less noise and more power, the issue of the differing woods is understood, of course.

Tone is awesome! Like the '62.

It appears that you've converted your 2004 floral 1954 reissue Precision to a "Mike Dirnt" clone. Not sure if you're a Green Day fan.

Not a Green Day fan. I cannot recall any of their songs. I guess he likes '60's p-ups too.

Doug said there was a metal plate (account for the silver textured part?) under the finish that was tough to cut through. Broke six bits routing out the hole for the new p-up.

You can purchase a pink paisley '54 and converting it into a "Mike Dirnt"-style bass in the same way you did with the blue floral P. You gotta have a second bass as a backup.

I've seen lots of early Telecaster Basses and real first generation P-Basses wrecked in this fashion. It is your bass and if you are happy with it fine.

Why not go ahead and add a Jazz pickup in the bridge position and put active electronics in it?

I've thought about this mod for two days now. If he's happy with it, that is his business.

He's taken one Blue Flower off the market forever. That makes the real ones left that much more valuable.

I would love to have a single coil Blue Flower. Maybe someday I'll find an original single coil one I like. No luck yet.

The all too few times I have found one either they were too expensive or someone has hacked them up like this 'un.
