hey guys!

i just want to ask about your opinion to p-basses with additional single-coil at the bridge-position.

because i do like that "clank" of my 75 jazz bass, but miss that deep bottom of my p-bass. so a pj-bass like that "special deluxe" seems to be the "best of both worlds" or is there 1+1 more than just 2???? does anyone know, if the pickup-spacing is like the "usual" spacing of the sixties and today or the wider spacing of the seventies?

regards from berlin and thank for your help!

I had a Fender JP90 bass that had both P and J pickups. I found the tone to be just right when both pickups were used/toggle was set in the middle position. Almost like a compression...

thanks for your answers already!

that g&l looks pretty interesting too (like the aerodyne) , but i would prefer a maple fretboard just like my jazz bass has....

i tried a yamaha bb414, good bass, but again, that rosewood fretboard was not right for me :/

so does anyone has experiences with the deluxe precision bass or has any idea of maple pj basses that doesn´t make me blank? that tony franklin signature looks great but....well you know...

thanks a lot!

I have a 1985 Fender Jazz Bass Special (MIJ) that came stock with Jazz neck and bridge p/up, as well as Precision body and neck p/up.

I later swapped out the Pickups for Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and STK-J2. I also added a Gotoh 201 bridge.

You might find something like this used or new. Of course, Fender has had P-J basses, some passive, some active in recent years.

Find a G&L dealer in your area and see what they may have, or can have made up for you. My SB-2 was made up to my specs for the cost of an Am. Std. Jazz. in 2.5 months from time of order to delivery. A Tobacco Sunburst body, Maple Fretboard with Clear Gloss. I was able to choose the the size neck, and the color of the pickguard. With a hard shell case. I also had the choice of the type of Maple to be used on the fretboard, and a choice of two finishes if bay on the maple. Fretless is an option, but only with a rosewood fretboard.

A big +1 here. You can configure a G&L to your exact liking for an awesome price.

And glbass, please get that rig picture out of your sig. I wet myself every time that I see it. Absolutely awesome bro, I am jealous.

+1 on the JP90. Wish they would reissue it exactly like it was then. I had one and well...traded it for another. Like my '68 Telecaster, I missed it almost immediately. The thing about the JP90 was the wild pickguard. Really unique.

Hello zod; My Mesa may look good, but it sounds even better. It pounds.
