I got not one, but two Fender P-bass jr's I typically play through and SWR workingman 200 head with a 18" Mesa cab. I was jamming with a particularly loud drummer last night and cranked the volume to try and cut through - next thing I know my speaker started frappen.

So I plugged into a Carvin 15" combo - and same thing. Changed to my other bass - and same thing. Changed cords - same thing.

So my question is could it be the pickups? It's pretty simple electronics, passive split coil (p-bass standard) with just a volume knob. If so, anyone got a suggestion for a good replacement? I need this fixed fast!

Thanks!

Wow, that is weird. These basses use standard P Bass pickups. There is no shortage of replacements. The WILDE by Bill Lawrence and the Seymour Duncans are both very good. Seymour Duncan I, II or III (depending on what sound you are after) would be an economical yet effective solution. You should have the pickups checked out just to make sure it isn't something else.

GOOD LUCK!
