My Precision is past forty years and all i do is what my viola teacher recommended. I apply almond oil to the fingerboard (because it's virgin rosewood). The sunburst polyurathane on the body is like glass and just needs a duster. I use beeswax on the maple neck and clean the hardware with WD40 on a cotton bud. The almond oil seems to condition the frets and strings and mimimise wear. I truly never expected this instrument to last from 1970 to now. Fender durability is amazing.

AND I bet you also keep your bass in comfortable environs. I bet you don't leave it in the car on a hot summer day or cold winter night. That is why your sunburst is still in such good shape.

Also people with maple fretboards, don't oil them ok?

When I play my '66 in the Summer months, I use a cut-off sock on my right forearm where it connects with the bass' body. This prevents sweat from contacting the finish. It's an old trick I learned from a classical guitarist.
