Hi everyone,

I got my first Fender (a 2010 MIA 'P' bass) at the weekend.

It's gorgeous: so much more than I ever imagined it could be!!

However, it's black and you've only so much as to look at it and it's covered in finger prints!

What's the best way to clean/polish a new guitar like this please- just the included cotton cloth or some of that 'spray and wipe' and/or polish you can get that Meguirs make for Fender and a microfibre cloth?

Thanks everyone.

Congrats on the new P-Bass!

Of course, no pics = no bass.

I use the Dunlop 65 Polisher & Cleaner and a nice(r) microfiber towel. For an occasional waxing, I use the Meguiars Gold Class liquid car wax.
Also, if you haven't already, get a can of compressed air, like the ones that you can clean/spray keyboards and electronics with. It removes the "dead skin particles" from pick-ups, bridges, nooks, and crannies.

I just use the Fender cleaning cloth on the entire bass. No problems here.

No finish shows fingerprints worse than black. That is always a consideration with a black bass or a bass with a black pickguard.

As Zod pointed out car care products work great on a guitar finish as it basically is the same paint that used on cars. That goes from the chrome too.

An automotive finish care company called Meguiar's makes the high end Fender guitar cleaning, polishing and waxing products. Probably the same stuff you can get at the auto parts store only you get more for the money.

ALSO the microfiber polishing cloths are great!

I hardly ever clean my basses! Maybe a quick wipe off after a gig or when changing strings........
