So.... After four hours of mild intermitent electrical shocks from my axe during a gig, i deduced the ground wire was to blame. Finding no loose solder at the pot, I removed the bridge to find a very unusual 1/2 hole underneath filled with some sort of gummy substance holding said wire in place. I think it's safe to assume that the ground is shorted, but how to get it out of there continues to elude me. Any advice?

Welcome.

Even an intermittent ground wire would NOT be the root cause of the shocks as there is nothing in any bass, even one with active circuitry which is powerful enough to shock the player.

In your particular situation, if the ground wire was fully disconnected, you wouldn't be getting any shocks at all. The fact that you were getting intermittent shocks while playing verifies that at the very least, the ground wire under your bridge was in fact, doing it's job at least intermittently. I'd go as far as saying it was working all the time until you lifted the bridge as it is rare that an 'unmolested' ground wire craps out, even intermittently.

The root cause of your problem is either an outright amplifier problem or an out of phase grounding issue between your amp and your PA system if you are getting these shocks while touching a microphone.
