I picked up a Fender P Bass Special made in Korea. s/n 04118643. Does anyone know the approximate age of this sweet sounding Bass?

I didn't know any full blown FENDER basses were ever made in Korea. Anyone else know about this one?

So far as I know the P-Bass Specials have been mostly Made in Mexico, a few in USA (the California Series had a P/J that looks like a Special) and some maybe in Japan. It isn't out of the question though. Some Fender 6 strings were made in Korea I understand.

If you go to the GUITAR DATE PROJECT site from my RESOURCES HISTORICAL page, you'll find that there is no KOREA box to check in the origin on Fender instruments.

I have two Korean made basses both made at the CORT plant, both branded IBANEZ. One of them is my current number 2 for gigs which a mid 90's TRB70. The other Korean one is an SRX700 that is SO NICE I very rarely ever take it out of the house for fear something will happen to it. I am the same way about my 06 Fender Standard P-Bass and the Fiesta Red 50's RI. The Korean Ibanez SRX700 is absolutely fanfreakingtastic. Carol Kaye has been playing that model bass for years.

Hats off to Korea for making some really good instruments! I am very happy with both of my Korean made basses. The pickups in the TRB70 were sort of tired, but that thing is 15 yrs old and it is to be expected after 15 yrs.

BD: I have a Fender Telecaster made in Korea, so it's possible. After labor strife there, most manufacturing has been moved elsewhere as of a few years ago. My model is a Flame Maple Top (FMT) Tele; I read on TDPRI that it was made by the Shecter plant. Excellent build quality.

Yep, like I said some 6 strings were made in Korea....but I've never actually seen a full blown Fender Bass made in Korea.

Ok, today I saw a Fender flametop Jazz made in Korea. Now I have seen one. Wild. It had active EQ with Seymour Duncan pickups stock. It was about 10 yrs old. Sold new for about $800 street price. Not bad at all either.
