Hi, all, I have a '97 amer. deluxe p, active with split coil and large humbucker, that is buzzing quite badly, checked the amp and cord, no noise with my hyw 1, changed the battery, no diff there, opened her up, no bad wiring or broken wires that I can see or test open, she played fine up until recently, now she's noisy with a buzz (120hz), any suggestions? maybe the preamp or redo the cavity shielding? BTW, there is a ground wire that connects to the cavity (no shielding in the cavity, just the top plate, but for what reason? thanks!

It is very hard to diagnose something by remote control. But I'd suspect something in the preamp.

It buzzes all the time? Even when you are not near any RFI sources? Also make sure the bridge ground is making good contact. Take an Ohm meter and check the continuity between the bridge and any ground point in the control cavity. Good luck.

Thanks, Brother Dave, I have checked all wiring and it is fine, I am going to re-shield the cavity and see if that does it, otherwise I will have to replace/repair the preamp...
