Back in 2004, I bought a white MIM P Bass. I put a T-Shell pickguard on it & a bassline Pup. LOVED it! Then in 2006, got a MIM Jazz. The Jazz became my #1 as I had always wanted one. Sold the P to a friend & started experimenting with other basses (active, 5 strings, anything I could get my hands on). After all these years, I realized what I was looking for was what I had sold! Called my buddy & worked out a trade & got my original P back in the exact condition I had sold it to him! Still have the Jazz, but I'm using the P more & more.
I'll never do that again! In fact, I'm now saving up to get an American P. But I will always keep my first one now that I have it back.
Anyone else ever sell one & regret it later?

I pretty much learned the same lesson, but I got my Am. Std. Jazz before I bought my MIM P. I use it as my main stage bass, but dumped the quarterpounds for the '62 RI p-up and MUCH happier!!!
I got a new 2010 Am. Std. P earlier this year. Oly White/Maple, swapped the pickguard for a gold RI like a '58. I love 'em both, now I'm looking for another MIM to have tuned down to Eb. Probably White with a Tort. guard, what would Surf Green look like with a Tort. guard???.......

I've seen t-shell on everything but surf green. The more I think about it, the cooler it sounds. I'm thinking about getting an American deluxe p. Seems like the best of both worlds.

Yeah, it seems sick & wrong but I think it would actually be kinda cool. I got the inspiration from watching a Gov't Mule DVD, Andy Hess was playing a Daphne Blue P with a Tort Guard. After the inital "WTF???" it started to grow on me. I've also considered Sea Foam Green, it reminds me of the antique "Lucky Strikes" cig ads.......

Can't really explain why, but I'm a sunburst man. Especially on Fenders. Bought the white P Bass cause it was the only one they had. That's why I dressed it up a bit. When I get the American Deluxe it will probably be sunburst.

My MIM P as well as my USA Jazz are both 'bursts. The P looks really good with a tort guard, I have a mother-of-toiletseat guard on the Jazz. The Am. Std. 'bursts just don't look that good to me, I almost prefer the 2-tone burst of the early 60's to all of them......

I think about the basses and guitars that have come and gone, sigh. I won't sell any basses that I own now, I go from my Precision to my Jazz periodically, both are great, depends on the mood. Amplifiers? Now that's a different thing altogether. If you saved and scrimped to buy a certain bass, it was destined to be yours, should you let it go, you'll always regret it.

I haven't done it yet, since all the guitars and basses i sold have problems that i hated, plus that guitar where the neck was to thick for me.. and is a pain to play.. so far.. i'm very much happy with a J bass and occassional p bass..

Played a "living room" gig last night. Didn't have much room to work with, so I made the executive desicion & only brought the P bass. There were a few songs that I missed the Jazz on, but overall it was awesome. Rock music & P bass just go together like peanut butter & jelly. So glad I got her back!
