Serial number puts it in the late 78- early 79 range. That pic has the knobs of my Bullet on it but the originals are back on it now. I got it 25 years ago and it's been locked up pretty much ever since.

I listed it on EBay just to see what kind of feedback I would get. Let me know if you'd like more info about it.

I have a few fretless basses with various fingerboard types: maple, rosewood, and ebony. One thing I would make you aware of is the effect of the wood type on the sound (this pertains more to fretless bassess than fretted).

Maple and ebony are fairly bright, rosewood is a bit warmer. But most important to me is the amount of string clack I get with my '76 P-bass with the maple board. Because maple turns grey if exposed to air, if is always finished. As a result, you get a fair bit of clack when fingering the strings (I finger the strings fairly hard and I do a fair bit of hammer-ons). This effect is somewhat reduced with unfinished ebony and reduced even more with unfinished rosewood (oil finish).

While I do really like my '76 P FL, I much prefer the sound and feel of ebony or rosewood boards.

I totally agree with you regarding the sound . My Jbass with rosewood board is my workhorse . It has such a rich warm tone to it. It's my main bass .My interest in a maple board PBass is basically to replace the one I once had . To add it as my "collectors item" & occasionally play out with it .

Joe, another solution is to order a Tony Franklin signature with a fretless maple neck, though Tony prefers having the maple neck on a fretted bass such as this beautiful Gold Amber shown below:

Press ALT+P to use the IMG tag then paste the URL which contains the image files using CTRL+V. Repeat the ALT+P sequence to close the IMG tag with the backslash.

Another great idea John ! Think the custom shop is my best bet . At last I'll know for fact the bass is true . No neck issues , plus it's brand new . Not really into buying basses I haven't played first but with the custom shop I feel comfortable & if there's an issue I have recourse .
Can I attach pics using my iPhone ??
Thanks again. Joe

Your fretless P resembles much to a Kramer Focus Bass.
