I think you're quite right for the Capri Orange bass, Joe. They're tons of pictures from other fretless maple neck Ps around the Internet, such as this fine 1976 model in the beautiful Lake Placid Blue finish.

Not a real maple-neck Fender, but this custom-made clone with the fretless ebony board produces a very cool "mwah": :P

If you go for a Custom Shop version of your fretless maple-neck P, you'll benefit of a compound radius neck (9.5"-14"), which makes fretless playing an unbelievable experience with no hand fatigue anymore.

Really ?? Sweet !!! I'm writing all this down . I'm so used to my J-Bass neck now that I hadn't thought of the size difference at the nut alone !! The radius now too ! Thanks Chrome . Keep the ideas coming . I appreciate it bro !

Are you a "Police" fan? Sting used a fretless maple-neck P during the band's early days in the late 1970s. Right here the "King of Pain" plays a sunburst Tele-shaped '53 with the pickguard removed.

Sting was the one who launched me into playing fretless .o became interested in fretless bass in '76 . Stanley Sheldon , Peter Framptoms bassist introduced me to the instrument . But I started playing it in '83 , exclusively . Love the feel & sound . Never went back to fretted bass since .

You told us that you've a fretless Jazz Bass. Have you tried the active American Deluxe and Victor Bailey signature models? They have a fretless rosewood fretboard with dot and fretline markers. The fretless US Deluxe was discontinued in 2010. The VB signature is the only fretless 4-string active bass actually in production.

No I haven't tried that series . Fretline markers ?? Hmm ... Not crazy about that . I like a clean board .

The only active fretless bass with the clean unlined board and comfy compound radius is the Steve Bailey Jazz Bass. However, I'm not sure if you want to try your skills on a 6-string bass. After all, many 6-stringers (Steve Bailey included) started their carreer playing 4-string basses.

Until you decide to order an American Deluxe Jazz Bass fretless with the pre-2010 specs and an unlined compound radius rosewood fingerboard!

I, too, never used a 6-string fretless.

Generally, fretless 6s are favored by blues, fusion and latin jazz musicians like Alain Caron, Les Claypool, John Patitucci, Bunny Brunel, Steve Bailey (of course), Roscoe Beck and many others. Most boutique 6-string fretless basses are active and sometimes employ some unusual exotic timbres.

Very nice .. I think somethings up with that capri orange P . Sent another email . Still no reply . I've gotten word around to the pawn shops too . Plus we have a vintage guitar shop here . So along with ur help I'm bound to find one bro . Saw an early strat from the 40's on antique roadshow . Said it was like the 5th one made. Early proto style with original case & he even had sales receipt !!!! Valued over $100,000 !!! Damn !!

The Strat appeared in 1954. There weren't Stratocasters available in the 40s. The first "snakehead" Esquire prototype debuted in 1949, three years after Leo founded the Fender companies in 1946. Capri Orange guitars and basses appeared in 1978.

That's what made this goutar so valuable ! They dated it back to late 40's . As a proto type . Even had the hand drawn idea for it . Looked very different from the strats we know of now . I don't know how the person got this guitar . I saw that episode awhile ago
