The Antigua and 3-colour burst ones are already owned.

Only the Capri Orange is for sale. The whole guitar is in good condition - neck, body and scratchplate still carry their original Fender serial number stickers. Pickups are original. The hard shell case is brand new. Not sure if it was already sold.

Here's the link:

http://www.guitars4you.com/guitar.asp?id=12

and the e-mail address if you need to send a message to Dick & Martin:

info@guitars4you.com

PS. The Capri Orange P is a 1978 and not a 1980 model as erroneously cited on my previous post.

If you can't find a fretless American P Bass, check out G&L SB-2. You can order them made the way you want it.

If you opt for a natural ash fretless maple-neck P, you can't go wrong with a 3-ply aged white pickguard.

Fender switched to the 3-ply black in 1975. These exquisite examples (which are not mine) were made in 1976 and 1979.

Sweet ! Im mainly into black . The natural finish is beautiful but It concerns me with a weight issue . P-Basses are heavy . At least mine was, & I need a lighter bass due to back injury . But your right about the pick guard . Mine was a 78 & it added so much more to the bass .
John Paul Jones ! My bass hero

Not all types of ash are heavy.

Many Fender basses were made out of lightweight ash.

If you want a natural fretless maple-neck P with a lightweight ash body, you can tell the Fender Custom Shop to build one for you.

These Master Builders are also able to replicate your favorite old sunburst fretless maple-neck '78 P in every detail.

Generally, Custom Shop basses are highly expensive and didn't represent the best solution for everyone's budget.

That's what I was wondering about also ; the Custom Shop . I figure they could build whatever I wanted. Btw Chrome, I inquired on that orange bass . Just waiting to hear back from them . I did find some sweet vintage Fender basses ( fretted tho) on a random site . 78 P-Bass & J-Bass . They were going for around $2500 each .

Yes, the Custom Shop can build everything you want.

However, the prices skyrocket, though; don't forget the extra Jazz pickup in the rear position, the heavy duty bridge, the Hipshot lightweight tuners, the greasebucket tone circuit and of course, a fresh set of stainless flatwound strings factory-installed and ready to go. These custom options increase the cost a bit.

You can order your favorite CBS-era PJ fretless with a slim Jazz neck, as well as requesting to have it with the top-mount jack. Most PJ basses had the output jack side mounted.

Many P-Basses made during the CBS period were available with a slim "A" neck shape. Not sure if your original 1978 P had the slender J-style neck.

We are so on the same page here . I had thought of combining a Jazz neck with a P-bass body for a long time . My 78 P-Bass had the standard size neck . I didn't know at the time there was an option . Plus I never knew of or saw a side mount output jack on a P -Bass .
