Hi everyone,

I've just noticed that the 2010 MIA Standard 'P' doesn't come with security locks included.

Will the standard factory strap buttons fit with the Schaller locks?

If not, is it a problem replacing the factory strap and end pins with the dedicated Schaller ones?

Thank you.

The Schaller locking strap buttons are a standard feature on the higher-priced American Deluxe Series and many Custom Shop guitars. Check out the "Guitar and Bass Accessories" for more detailed information.

You can eventually replace the stock strap buttons with the Schaller locking types or the recessed Dunlop flush-mount straplocks Eric Clapton uses on his signature axes since 2005.

Yes, I know they are Chromeface- that wasn't what I was asking.

What I said was that the 2010 MIA Standard 'P' I've ordered doesn't come with security locks included.

1. Will the standard factory strap buttons (that come on the MIA Standard from the factory) fit with the Schaller locks?

2. If not, is it a problem replacing the factory strap and end pins with the dedicated Schaller ones?

No the standard strap buttons won't fit a Schaller strap lock.
No problem, just buy the Schaller strap buttons/end pins or whatever you want to call them. Sometimes you can find them on eBay used for cheap.

Your new bass should come with some case candy, including a new strap. So that will work. And you can continue to use the straplock strap with your other bass as a backup. Or take the strap buttons off your current bass and put them on the new Fender and move the ones on your Fender to your existing bass. So, yes you can swap the strap buttons out. The screws Schaller supplies with their strap locks are smaller than the ones Fender uses on the standard strap buttons. The Fender screws will fit through the Schaller strap lock buttons usually though. Use the same screws on each instrument. At one time the Fender screws would not fit through the Schaller straplock buttons however at some point either Schaller made the hole bigger or Fender make the screws smaller because I've made it work.

Congrats again Redlawman on the new USA P-Bass.

Hi there (again, Brother Dave)! And thank you.

So If I get a set of nice black Schaller strap locks, I can just take the stock buttons off my new 'P' and attach the Schallers to the bass with the original screws Fender used?

No damaging the wood or having to fill in the holes on my new pride and joy then..?? :)

Not if the original Fender screws fit through the strap lock will there any worry. If they don't, you might could drill the hole in the strap locks a little bigger. In the past when I used the screws included in the strap lock kit they eventually loosened. I think the Schaller screws are smaller.

I then wind up up coating aboug 3/4 of a inch of the end of a round toothpick in Gorilla glue, sticking the toothpick into the body and breaking the toothpick off flush with the surface of the body, letting the glue dry overnight and then reinstalling the screws. I realize this is not an ideal thing to do, but it works. No more problems with the screws coming loose after I do that. You can fix boogered out strap button screw holes that way and it will work fine for years after. Naturally, be REAL careful with glue around the instrument.

Good luck with the new P-Bass.
