I need to fix some bad wires on two different basses both Fender precision basses from 1977 and 1978.

Where can I get non-cloth wire appropriate for the 1977-78 Precision Basses?

What type of wire do you guys use for repair and for rewiring?

The non-cloth wire fender used was black and white PVC .22 AWG tinned copper strand wire by Belden.

I prefer to use the cloth covered .22 AWG vintage style wire. It is easier to work with since you can just push back the insulation instead of stripping. Just cut to length and push pack the cloth insulation and solder.

You might luck out and find at least the PVC type at an old-fashioned full service hardware store and maybe even the cloth covered too, but the cloth is harder to find. If you have no luck at all locally then try Guitar Parts Resource Dot Com or Stew Mac Dot Com or any of the other guitar parts sites. I can wire two P-basses with about 3 feet of wire and have plenty left over. The online guitar parts sites mark up wire over what it costs at the hardware store since it is specialized "guitar wire" when they sell it to you and then there is shipping and handling on top of that. The exact same wire is a much better deal if you can find it at a local hardware for sure. This wire was almost always made by BELDEN however some other brands could have been used from time to time I suppose.
