i have a black 1978 Fender Precision Bass, maple fretboard.

i was at a gig with a very crowded stage, and the lead guitarist stepped on my cable and i handn't noticed, i walked away, and my black pickguard chipped off near the input.

i ordered a new replacement pickguard, but i cant get my pots/knobs off of my old pickguard.

any help?

Good. Sorry about the guard though. They will break like that. To avoid that, you can loop the cable up behind the strap to provide some strain relief. I do this because someone is always stepping on my cables and sometimes it is me.

Leave some slack on the loop so you can feel it starting to drag against the pressure from the strap and stop! It should look like the cable in this photo fragment of my home page photo.

While the bass pictured has a lower bout mounted jack, the principle is the same. Or you could go wireless.

I've always wanted a wireless that sounded as good as a wire. The new Line 6 ones are almost there. Might actually buy one sometime but I don't play out enough to justify it right now. What I really need is an Ashbory by Fender Bass or one of those Kala U Bass ukuleles. Haven't decided which yet but one of the two.

This does bring up a good question though, which is why hasn't Fender developed a wireless that sounds great for bass?
