Hey guys this is my first post ever in a forum and i have a couple questions that im finally gonna get of my chest. I play in a rock band (modern rock like linkin park, paramore, etc), and i want to buy the bass of my dreams. Im willing to pay anything. I know the reliability and amazing tone in fenders.

I just want to know for the music im playing, what kind of fender bass i should get. I love bass tone that really pops at you. Like the bass player of Tool. I do want something to carryout the low end of a rock band too.

So here are my debating choices

either

American Fender Jazz?
or
American Fender Precision?

also

Standards or Deluxes in these models?

Ive been driving my self crazy with all this research and i dont know what to do haha

I would go with an American Precision Deluxe. Good cross between a Precision and a Jazz, should cover everything you're looking for. A plain old American Jazz bass could be good, too. Whichever you get I would suggest you use roundwound strings to get that nice piano-like rock bass tone.
I like Dean markley Blue Steels.

I would go with the American Precision or American deluxe precision. I just like the beef and tone I get from p basses. The deluxe precision gives you quite a range to work with as well.

Seeing as you say you play paramore type stuff, I'll point out that Jeremy Davis uses an American deluxe jazz bass.

The American Deluxe basses (Jazz and Precision) are both versatile basses. The both have a very good sound and feel for any style of music.

For maximum versatility either the J or P Deluxe would be what I'd get. I'm old and I don't play that music. But that is what I'd get because it would come closest to the description you are giving. Personally the American Standards are preferred because I don't gig with active basses as a general rule.

For the extra UP FRONT tone I'd say the J-Bass wins out. However for low end bark the P-Bass rules.

This is a personal decision you should only make after playing both. Also what instrument and neck profile you are playing now matters.

String selection, processing and amplification rig matters a lot too.

Good luck!
