All - been in market for p bass for awhile now. Found one in local pawnshop with serial no. SN623787. Can anyone tell me where it was made and is it a signature series? What I have found seems to indicate it is, but not sure where it was made. Sorry, no pictures right now - but it is white with white pick guard. I can pick it up for 350.00 - plays very nice. Thanks in advance

I am not sure but I thought SN623787 meant 1996 model year. Try looking on google images or ebay for 1996 Fender Basses to see if any of them look like the one in the pawnshop.

Thanks, I have been looking all afternoon for pix - google, ebay, etc. Can't find anything that looks quite like it. I did find, as you mention, that it is a 1996 But on the fender site's SN lookup, I was unclear where it was made.
Plus, the body color is white, with a white pick guard. Also, had a thin gold painted line following the contour of the body. I have never seen this before, but might not be that unusual - the last time I was in the market for a fender precision was about 1974 :)

Were you able to find a matching headstock in any of the pictures you looked at?

Not a clear picture. On the pix I found of the headstock, they appeared to say Made in USA. The one at the pawn shop did not say that, but the serial number would imply that it was not made in Mexico. The reason I would like to know is that 350.00 for a USA made would probably be a good price, but if not made here, I don't know that it would be. Plus, I would like to feel a bit better about it's authenticity.
