I own a '62 reissue P that I've been trying to get a definative answer on for 23 years.
While working for Sam Ash Music in the 1980's I bought a "Pink" colored 62 Reissue Precision from Sammy Ash in the White Plains store (1987).
The Fender shipping containers had stickers with the model #, & color code.
This one didn't have a color code on the label.
The closest color i can describe it to is Salmon Pink.
Sammy Ash alluded to it being "The bass that never was" saying that it was a custom finish. He based his assumption on the missing color code stamp on the shipping label.

I called Fender twice to get some info, and was told:
1) It was could have been a NAMM show bass.
2) They "think" they made one for for Gary Moore's bass player, but he never picked it up.
I worked in the Fender Room at a NYC guitar expo organized by Sam Ash Music in the late 80's.
I mentioned this bass to the 2 Fender employees I worked with and they both seemed very interested in the bass.

Some odd things:
The neck pocket shows odd markings not usually found there (see pics link at the bottom).
The neck has a 1-6-87 date, but the pots are dated 14th week of 1986, almost a year earlier.
The case is from the Fullerton era (darker red interior, rounded top latches, duck-billed pull tab on the compartment lid).
There are 2 undercoates before the topcoat.
The 1st. is Black.
The 2nd. is Seafoam Green.
The topcoat is a Pink in color

I have been told that it's a lighter shade of Fiesta, but I haven't seen a Fiesta Red one like it yet.

I've included a link with pics below.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks:
Jim Falco

Call fender with Serial number. They should be able to tell you all about it.

It souds like you have a nice custom finished precision.

It is going to be difficult if not impossible to document your bass any more than you already have done. If it was an artist request for a custom color and they rejected the bass, it very well could've been shipped to a dealer.

I have heard that around the 5th of May all kinds of wild colors are painted at the Fender factory.

Enjoy your fender bass.
