Hello All,

I'm new to the forum...

I own a late 70's Precision, and would like to upgrade the tuning machines, using the black machines that come on the Duff M, signature series bass.

I also want to upgrade the bridge, with a black, Badass II, which, according to Quan, will soon be available through - www.allparts.com

Will these machine heads screw right on, as direct replacements for the originals, and can I order the machine heads from any music store (Guitar Center), as replacement parts from Fender?

Thanks!

Brother Dave's Law of Bass #3: Changing machine heads is always a bear.

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. I think the DUFF's are quite different from late 70's USA...since the Duff's were Japanese they were possibly GOTOH brand tuners. Not positive about that but possibly. The screw spacing anterior to posterior and superior to inferior are all probably different. HOWEVER the good news is that the backplate on the machine heads may (but not guaranteed) cover all the old screw holes. I think you should count your lucky stars if the headstock hole is the correct diameter in the first dang place. It probably isn't.

Rule 17: DRILL ONLY AS A LAST RESORT TO SAVE AN INSTRUMENT WHEN NO OTHER OPTION IS AVAILABLE! If you must drill then take your time and do it right. Measure thrice, drill once, but DRILL ONLY WHEN you absolutely HAVE TO DRILL in order to keep the instrument ON-LINE. Drilling a hole in an instrument is IRREVERSIBLE. You can NOT un-drill a hole.
