I have a p-bass- semi hollow body, fretless Heartfield electronics,(Japanese made in either 1989 or 1990?) and would like some further info on this bass. It's a great bass, and somewhat rare I'm told.

I read about Heartfelt Electronics. Check them out. I would never part with a Fender Japanese made semi hollow Bass. In the 80's & 90's: Japan produced some nice instruments. Heartfelt electronics offered Fender their services and joined together with them to make Fender's with Heartfelt electronics. Your bass is a sort of prototype. The semi-hollow feature makes your P-Bass a true oddity. Then the built in Heartfelt Electronics truly make it one of not too many. Never lose it and & never change the electronics. It is at least "very unusual" if not "rare". I bet that semi-hollow feature gives it a tone all of it's own. Nice Find!

I came across one of these at my local guitar shop about a year ago, but I can't remember the model name. It was a great bass, fantastic tone that was distinctly Fender but also very unique.

I think they were asking around $450 for it in mint condition, I still regret not taking it home.

I had found some good info on it at one point, so I'll see if I can dig up that website again...

Edit for Pic:

Does it look like this?

Thanks for the replies. I bought this bass new at my local music shop in 1992.(It had been in the store for about a year.) I love playing it, as the scale fits my fingers and the sounds I can get with it(also has a bridge p/u)
are quite varied. I would love to hear from anyone else who might have one.

Very cool indeed! I've never seen it in sunburst...can you post some pics?

If I happen to run across one of these again, I'll probably be taking it home.

Triumphrider- I'll try to post a pic of it as soon as I can. I did make two modifications to it years ago- I put a brass nut on it, and I have a D-tuner on it. It's my primary bass to play. I just love it . Thanks for all the info, and if you can p/u one these I highly recommend it.
