I have 2 American PBasses and play/gig them both weekly. One is a NEW pbass with the highmass string-thru bridge, hipshot tuners, rooled edges, etc. Great bass w many improvements. Has the standard beefy pbass neck and plays fine with propoer setup.

QUESTION on pbass #2: (t traded private party for a Yahaha 12 string acoustic): "Made in USA" Serial #Z3 + 6 digits which dates it to 2003-04, also a "new" bass. All stick, standard bridge BUT!....it has an AWESOME super-slim neck. Same width at the nut but not nearly as thick and musch less of a "C" shape; much thinner and flatter making it a breeze to play. It also has the "bullet" truss w nut at headstock and strip on back of neck (rosewood fretboard0.

I cant seem to find any info on thiis; not even on the Fender site and I'm curious because I have yet to see/play another pbass with this neck. Was it standard issue on 2003 models or is this a "vintage reissue" or something else that Fender put out that year (serial # on Fender site doesnt incidate)

thanks!

I have a 2005 MIM Pbass with an unsually thin neck as well. I actually don't like it cause I feel like it has less resonance. I think I'm going to replace it with a warmoth neck, 1-1/2" nut. It seems theres a few fenders from just about every series that have unually thin necks compared to others.

Fender offered P basses with narrow nut width in 1970 (I have read, not sure for how many years).

A few years ago, I saw one of these older P basses with the narrow nut width, ash body, black pick guard and rosewood fret board. It looked and felt very nice; I usually prefer J bass necks anyway.
