I never saw Steve having his signature bass in Fiesta Red.

The SH P-Bass is only available in Royal Blue.

I love A GOOD P-bass as much as anyone but this bass is'nt worth the 1500.00$ price tag :( the original Harris sig model was 549.00$ now its 1100.00$ more? come now is a bad-ass bridge and a QP- pick-up worth the hike? or maybe the mirrored p-gaurd throws it over the top..
If I was that deperate to have a bass like this I would buy a Mexican made blue p-bass with the now avalible maple hneck, add the B.A bridge and S/DUNCAN pickup and red gaurd for like a total of 225.00$ add that to the bass's 449.00$ pricetag and its a do-it-yourself Steve Harris sig bass, throw in a wood burner trace a penny and make it have a mean face and theres the Eddie aspect of it.
its out of control this Fender thing,I AM VERY ticked off at the price tag most of thier basses cost,an American made standard model now is 1300.00$,I had to buy my two Fenders used(1 p-bass,1 jazz-bass)for under a grand,I had to go with what ever color the bass in what I had to choose from was,and wound up with 2 sunburst basses with a rosewood neck, dont get me wrong they are as close to perfect as I can hope to get but I would have preferred a maple neck for my p-bass,but such is life. So overpriced? YES!

Steve's signature bass should be available with much colour choices than Royal Blue.

For me, Olympic White with fake double black binding and a silver cross graphic (shown below) and Chequered Flag are perhaps the most popular.

Very sexy color! Goes perfect with the maple fretboard! I played some funk on it so it can be used for more than just metal!

Part of the price is just to have a signature model, obviously. But hopefully there is some added quality control behind the price too. Still, all the new Fenders since 2008 seem so well made, maybe that's where the cost increase is from, retooling across the line?

I got one of these as soon as they came out back in Jan 09, and I absolutely adore it. Granted I am a huge Maiden fan, and I was originally really gutted about missing out on the older model with the red plate, so the price really didn't bother me, I just let the plastic take the hit!!

I think personally Fender got it dead right this time around with the detail on the bass, and I was then kinda glad I didn't get the older model.

The colour is amazing, much better first hand than in the pictures, the vintage neck radius suited me perfectly as I've been playing a 78 P-Bass for years, and they even put Steve's signature Rotosound Flatwounds on it, although these will not be to everyones taste, being very heavy gauge. I personally changed them to more regular roundwound 105's which needed a small truss adjustment (also because roundwounds stay brighter than flats for longer, I can't afford to be changing my strings every gig like Steve Harris can!!) I also think that the signature just being on the back of the headstock is much better than the older one's eddie logo, it's much more understated and cooler. 8)

A small negative - if you can call it a negative - for me was the lack of a hard case, I would have hoped a Bass of that price would qualify for one, although the gig bag supplied is very well padded. And I'm led to believe that NO basses made in Japan have hard cases supplied.

I note in an earlier post someone commenting that the old signature model was much cheaper than the new one, and that it would be better to get a standard Lake Placid Blue P-Bass with a maple neck, and add a BadassII, mirror plate and a seymour duncan and save a wedge of cash. Whilst its true that you will save money, what you will have is essentially what Fender did the first time around, albeit without the eddie logo. What you are paying for this time, in my opinion, is the finer details like the one-off colour, the vintage radius neck etc etc, also lets not forget that generally most things are overall a damned sight more expensive than they were when the first sig model was released.

In summary, the 2009 Steve Harris signature is built like a tank, looks AMAZING, plays like it should and sounds great. But it could do with a hard case, and the strings may not be to everyones taste.

When all is said and done, in my opinion, if you've tried it a few times in store and loved it, then its probably right for you, and a modified standard P-Bass will definitely NOT feel the same as the Signature, its a totally different animal altogether.

It is a nice looking P Bass. I myself, can't justify $100.00 more for it than an Am. Std. P, that comes with a real case, not a gig bag. You have to like that color too, and the bigger neck.
