I can put a J neck on a P body can't I?
I know this sounds really stupid, but I'm 99.9% sure it's ok. It's just the 0.1% doubt! Before I spend money on bits that wont fit...

The heel of the J and P bass necks are identical I believe. Obviously there is a size difference at the nut though. (Duh! hehe :))

Yes, you can do it. I've done it. Infact my 2 p-bass specials came w/ jazz necks. I just updated the one w/ a new jazz neck w/ block inlays.

You can absolutely replace a P neck with a J neck or vice versa. I actually have a specific maple/maple Jazz neck that I bounce between a P and J body for certain recording projects because the thing just plays SOOOO great. The only determining factor will be the number of frets (i.e a fender J 24 may not lock into a standard P or J body, and the OLD Tele basses and Pre-57 P basses often had squared heels that do not allow for exchange without modification to either the neck or the body.

As mentioned above, the P-Bass Special comes with a Jazz neck and both a J and a P pickup. It's my favorite at the moment. Truly the best of both worlds.
