Hey all, I just picked up my first P-Bass today (Honey Blonde 50's P) brand new from the store. I got the gig bag, tags, etc, but I was wondering if these are also supposed to include the pup cover and tug bar to be mounted below the strings as well?

I've always been a Jazz guy, but after I played this in the store on Saturday it just followed me home 8)

I'll post some pics of the retro thumper shortly.

Way to go. I came to the light and got a P Bass recently as well. So much for the J Bass.

Since I'm a subscriber to the "pics or it never happened" school of thought...

I think the chrome covers and tug bar only come with the USA made Vintage Reissue series of JAzz and Precision basses.

The Mexican or Japanese made 50's Fenders come naked, so to speak.
So you will have to buy these as aftermarket parts from your local Fender dealer.

That's a nice looking 50's Precision bass. I have a Japanese one in tobacco sunburst. It rocks!

Very nice, congrats! As far as covers, you'll probably have to buy them online, I haven't seen them in any store I've been to.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'll see if any of my local shops have any spare tug bars laying around. I'll probably pass on the pup cover for now...not sure how chrome would look on top of the gold/blonde combo, plus I'm usually plucking right over the pickup.

The more I play this, the more I like it. I've played quite a few P's in stores, but this was the first one that sounded/felt like what I think a P should. Being a Jazz/Jag owner, I've never really considered owning the mighty P. I've seen it posted on here more than a couple times, and i now understand; Leo got it right on the first try. But if you're reading this, you probably already knew that!

This is one of those great Mexi basses where the planets were aligned just right when it was made, and it feels and sounds as solid as any American Fender I've played, including my favorite American fretless.

You can find the chrome covers and tub bar after market on eBay all the time. They're the same ones Fender includes with the AV basses.

Glad you like your 50's Precision, they are generally regarded for being well made so I'm not surprised yours turned out well. Congrats!

I've had one in fiesta red for about three years now -- a lot of heavy gigging on that one. The band liked it so much, that when I showed up at a gig with a fretless J, they sent me home for the P.

I now have an AV 57 P and it's even better. Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats on all.

The 57 comes with the tug bar attached, and a plastic bag with the bridge and pickup covers. The tug bar doesn't get in my way, but I'm afraid the pickup cover would really annoy me, so the chrome doodads stay in their bag.

I bought the exact one years ago; it's been through hell and back and it still looks beautiful!

It didn't come with a pup cover or tug bar.

Thanks! I went in looking for a Fiesta red one, but the only one was road worn, and I didn't want that. I played the AV '57 they had there, as well as the road worn, and this one just had that perfect feel.

The color has really grown on me...you can't see it in the pics, but the wood grain shows through the finish on the body. Very subtle.

All my other basses have at least 4 knobs and/or switches, but with the P I've learned there's something to be said for just one pickup one vol, and one tone. 8)

I have a fiesta red one, that I'm selling. I could never get used to the color...but the buyer is buying it just because he loves the color, so it's all your personal taste. I'll say the finish is flawless on it.

But my new squeeze is a two-color sunburst AV '57, and I've bonded with it in a way that I never did the '50s Classic. You understand that I made more money with that fiesta red beast than any other, before or since.

For what it's worth, I gigged with an Ampeg B100R...now I'm playing the '57 through a Mesa/Boogie Walkabout Scout 1x15. Life is good -- but I'd go up on the bandstand with that Classic '50s and the Ampeg in a heartbeat.

Actually the I haven't got around to selling the Ampeg yet...just on the other side of it sits my Mesa M6 Carbine 2 x 12 Combo.
