As usual the the strap button screw is getting loose on my Am Std. I usually just need to re tighten it about every few days. This happened on my 62 Pbass and I replaced the screw with a slighty longer screw (same width) which held tight on the 62. Any other ideas? maybe using the same screw?

fill the hole--toothpicks or something similar and glue.

IMO a dab of Super Glue/Loc-Tite. Let it set and dry.

I recommend that you use Elmer's or any generic white glue for this application.

Superglue is overkill and there is no need to risk gluing your fingers together.

The toothpick trick is the way to fix any loose screw on a wood bodied bass. You can even take off the strap button and stick-in a tooth pick, break it off and screw the strap button back on, without using any glue, to get through a gig.

I sometimes use two toothpicks if the hole is large enough.

Yes, the dark side of superglue.
In this case it is overkill.

Yep, I use the age-old, time-tested, matchstick/toothpick trick.

I tried the newer product gorilla glue on my jazz bass gromets that allow for string through bridge design,I dont believe in adding anymore tension on a thin jazz neck so I go from the back of the bridge as opposed through the body, and without the ends of the strings(balls?)tension pushing the gromets into the seated position they have a tedency to fall out from time to time  .
But be careful the gorilla glue expands as it drys and could push itself out onto the bass and muck up the finish, but its a lot more reliable, stronger and will hold the parts being glued together better than crazy glue does to your skin,it has a longer dry time but is stronger in the long run

The bass is designed for that. I don't think you have anything to worry about putting more stress on the neck.
