Hi P Bass Guys; I changed over from my J to a P today. The sound on this P has me in a trance. Went from Am. Std. J to Am. Std. P. Love it.

I went with the rosewood, but thinking about returning it for the maple. I had that on my Jazz, and really liked the feel and the look of it.

I usually play a J-J, but sometimes you need the P bass sound.

My '85 Jazz Bass Special with P-J pickups fits the bill.

I own and play several Precisions but sometimes I prefer my Jazz basses. That's why it's good to have both if you can afford to own more than one bass. Options for tone are nice (including having non-Fender basses too!)

Hi jav; What is the color and fretboard on your ax? Like a lot of folks, i'm down to the nub money wise, so my choice was one or the other. I am getting a maple fretboard Precision 3-color sunburst, and returning the 3-color sunburst rosewood fretboard. The guys at my local Sam Ash great to work with. I'm lucky I guess.

I have Black w/ maple neck. Wasn't my first pick body color wise (would have picked Olympic white w/maple or 3 colorsnbrst w/ maple), but it was the tone of the maple neck that got me. well there is a million posts about that preference arguement!

I should have my maple in about 10 days from Fender. I'm glad i'm going with the maple again. Got spoiled by the sound and feel of it.

I'm still waiting on my new Am. Std. Precision, it was supposed to show up mid March. I'm going with Oly White w/ maple fretboard, but I'm going to have the dealer swap the pickguard for a 50's gold annodised one(that way I can leave the plastic & label intact on the orginal). Hopefully it'll have the look of the 50's P with the modern neck, etc. I'm trading in my '08 Am. Std. Jazz for it, which will leave me with my '01 MIM burst P-Bass and my Squier P with MIM Jazz neck for backups. The suspense is killing me, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!!!

I know what you mean, big time. The Am. Std. is worth the wait.

I just got a call from the dealer that said my bass was in. After checking, it turns out they had ordered 2, one Maple/Oly White(mine) the other Rosewood/Oly White(theirs). Guess which one came in?

AARRRGGGHHH!!!

Mine is supposed to show up next week. The suspense is killing me!!!

I had an Olympic/maple. Great bass, but I just starting liking the look of the grain of the wood in the 3-color sunburst. I'm using a rosewood 3-color until my maple 3-color shows up. I didn't like the sound my Precision was getting out of an Ampeg BA115Hp 220 watt that I had a former Jazz playing through. Went back to a Marshall half stack. MB450H head with a MBC410 cab. All better. That Precision is a Mountain of sound out of the Marshall. Like you, where's my Maple? Hang in there.

I readjusted my angle of my hand on the neck of the P Bass, and found even with small hands and fingers I get around cleaner on the P Bass neck then the some what thinner J Bass. Oh well, can't figure.

I have short fingers too, but I have issues with tedonitis. I found that when I stopped playing the Jazz and just played the P-Bass they have almost gone away. That's why my '08 Am.Std. Jazz is for sale and I ordered a new Precision.
I might consider "bastardizing" a MIM Jazz if I found a good P neck to put on it, Otherwise there isn't anything I need that I can't do with a Precision!!!
