obviously limiting yourself to one style you limit yourself and why would anyone want to limit their possibilities if it sounds good then just do it or as the song on the Ginger Baker album i use to have :( said "Do What you want". And now that I have said that here is another album I been looking for for several years; anyone familiar with a band called Red White and Blues Image and a song titled "Ain't no Rules in California"? I can still remember the cover had a picture of the band covered with cobwebs. Oh well I guess this has nothing to do with PBass or how you play. visit me at http://www.topline-design.com. Lord help me I can't change.

I have used both and prefer the basic two finger techinique but I've got to admit that the pick provides more punch and is probably better for certain applications. Remember, one of the great early bassists, Carol Cane from the motown sessions band, used a pick almost exclusively

I use fingers. I have Steve Harris strings on my bass and it sounds better with your fingers.

Pick, playing with the finger kills some of the sound

Most of the time I use my fingers. But if I want a stronger sound I go for the pick. I'm the same speed with both.

I know that from my playing experience, you can feel your position on the bass better with fingers, as opposed to using a pick.
But then again, its all in what you get used to.

i dont like using picks, i have been know to if my hand gets hurt, which it does a lot (i fall a lot while i bike), but usually i play with 3-4 fingers which allows me to go faster than with a pick, and for anyone who says you lose tone with your fingers, id have to say that you are quite wrong, its only being muffled because you dont move your fingers fast enough

3 fingers, depending on if I am sitting or standing. mostly index to ring, but when I sit it switches into thumb to middle sometimes including the ring.

I use fingers and pick, depending on what song. For something like "Parallel Universe" I use a pick and most others I use fingers.

I almost exclusively pick, and I get good use out of the pickguard! I hold the pick kinda funny (I only use .70mm brain picks BTW), I grip it with thumb, forefinger, and middle finger, all crammed onto a tiny pick (my hand are bigger than most on top of it). The rest of my hand comes together to make a fist, which locks my forearm but lets all the movement come from my elbow and wrist. Gives me killer attack.

The downsides are that I go through strings quickly, and my middle finger's cuticle is bloody by the end of a show from scraping on the strings. Hard to clean up!

I can fingerpick, but I'm way, way slower. Sublight speeds compared to Warp 9.
