2 fingers walking. I can do three fingers, just don't like to do that. I'm pretty fast with two. Pick is out of the question with me, got to use my fingers for tone control.

Both, whichever will be easier for the right hand that day. I should get in front of a mirror and see what I'm doing wrong when sitting and playing finger style. That's when the wrist starts to hurt fast, so there's something about my form that needs correcting.

I mainly use my fingers. I play faster and do some slap and pop. I do however use a pick when my band covers Tool's Sober because I need to strum the chords that are played in the song.

I've been playing for about 20 years, semi-pro, and I'll tell you there is no right or wrong way to play the bass. With incredible bass players in every genre playing with every conceivable technique, it all boils down to what you need for the song. If you get so wrapped up in wanting to play a certain way because your hero plays that way, then you're limiting the possibilities of the bass. For all the fingerstyle purists, remember Chris Squire and Steve Swallow play with a pick exclusively, as did Entwistle and John Paul Jones when the situation dictated. The list of fingerstyle experts in equally impressive, as is the thumb popping crowd. Even experimental players like Michael Manring who do amazing things with an Ebow deserve looking into.
So, that being said, don't be a style snob, just play with the style that gets the sound you hear in your head.

I'm collecting my classic series 50s precision bass on friday and i can't wait. i love playing with pick or finger and don't rele put down bassists who play with pick, and with precisions, you can get rele nice tones with a pick. it has that punch:)

You know, I've heard this Pick Vs Finger argument SO many times! This is the first time I've seen someone give what I'd consider to be the definitive answer to the question.
Well done, my man. You nailed it!

So true, so true. I've injured my finger when I was younger, but the show must go on. Guess what, I had a hard time playing with a pick, so don't knock it, it's not that easy playing with a pick either. I still play with my fingers now tho, it's what I prefer.

Ever since I seen John Deacon play bass in a video I always used my first two fingers. Since then I notice he used pick also, but my style still with fingers

Depends on the gig and the style of music you are applying the technique.

Really on the technique that is your 'strong suit.' Though be a versatile as possible if you want the most working opportunities (gigs). :!:
