Do any of you guys do this? If so, how do you do it and why? Is it a bad idea?

You sand down the back of a neck to reduce friction from the palm of your hand sticking to a hard, usually shiny finish as you play.

Old necks on vintage basses have this happen from use and relic instruments fake this to look old, but I would be careful about doing it on a newer bass.

New satin finishes may not be so sticky and I find that if you play with clean hands, the sticky factor is reduced.

Your bass neck is sealed from moisture for a reason. If you take away the finish. the bass neck may tend to warp or change in a way you didn't expect.

I've never heard of anyne sanding down the neck, at least not as far as actually removing the finish, I think that would assuredly be a mistake. I have heard of people taking steel wool to the neck just to take the shine off to reduce friction.

yea i sanded the neck on my 94' plus deluxe,i used 300 grit wet just to take the shine off and to make faster and smother hand slide, but you do not want to take the finish off just smooth it out some.If you have a collector piece i wouldn't recommend it.
