Hello all, just bought a Sting Sig. p bass in 2-tone sunburst. Awesome bass but doesn't stay in tune well, and my d and g strings ping very loudly after the 12th fret? Any ideas?
Also want to get new set of strings for it? Any suggestions?
Thanks all

you might just have to buy a new neck because yeah what you said seems like it is warped and it is kinda tough to play with a warped neck because it throws off the string placement and the action. The tuning also can come from a warped neck but you might need to buy a couple f new tuners cause even if the strings are a little weird the tuners don't move. Also check if the tuners are screwed in all the way that helped with my bass just not too long ago.

^ sod that, if the neck is warped I wouldn't even bother taking it to a technician if the Fender Warrantee/Guarantee is still in date!

Anyway, new tuners may do the trick like mentioned but are the strings quite new? I'm told new strings go in and outta tune a lot for a while (though I've never had that with my bass, have done on guitar though).

If the bass is brand new it could just need a set up reeeeallllyyyy bad. My 51RI was in wretched shape when I bought it, set up wise. Did a complete set up on it, and now it's perfect. If you don't know how to do your own set up, take it to a Fender authorize service center and have it looked at.

Remember, unless you're in Japan, that bass has to travel quite a ways to get to the dealer. Long travel, and climate changes do crazy things to basses. I'd say get her looked at first. If it's a bad neck and the bass was bought new, then it should still be covered.

P necks usually don't warp very badly, and if they do it takes quite awhile and some harsh conditions or abuse. Definitely get it looked at, and professionally set up if the neck isn't defective.
