I have quarterpounds in 2 of my P-Basses(MIM & Squier/MIM Jazz neck P Frankenbass). The MIM has CTS pots and orange caps like a 60's P. The problem is I get a hum/noise whenever I'm not directly touching anything metal on it. When I used a pick I never noticed it that much but now that I'm playing fingerstyle it's very annoying. It happens with ALL of my amps and My Am. Std. Jazz doesn't do it, just the P-Basses. They were both shielded so I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Perhaps your ground wire is not in proper contact with the bridge.

I've thought of that, but then why would it make a diiference when I touch the brdge, strings, or tuners as well as the jackplate?

In my understanding, that's because YOU become the ground in that instance, when you touch the strings, etc.

If that is the case, then I should be able to test "cure" the problem by clipping a jumper wire between the bridge and the jack?

That might work. Give it a try.

I think I have found a solution to the problem, I had my local dealer order me a '62 RI p-up from Fender.
