Hey yall, I think it's really great when I see a bass that's really worn down. It sort of exites something in me, and I admire people who play those basses. They seem to tell a sort of story: the battle scars, playing night after night, that place were you ALWAYS rest your arm, and how you haven't changed your strings in three years... and all that great stuff.

So what's your story?

Post some pictures, share some thoughts, and we'll all celebrate the bassists who have worn their basses down to the wood!

I have no story for you I havent had my bass long enough yet, but I also love worn down guitars. You can ruin it though by doing it your self with a sander and just beat your guitar up instead of playing it.

Our guitarist has a 74 Strat that is worn in and looks fantastic! My 76 Precision is getting there.

Back in the 70's and 80's I was stationed in the Army at Fort Bragg and I had a truly ugly and ill playing no-name bass. Someone had actually gave it to me because I dam sure wouldn't have bought something like that. The housing area I lived in had a yard sell one day so I gave it to my wife to sell (or give away), as we were about to go overseas for 3 years. Upon our return I got the itch to play bass again and started window shopping. My wife, in the mean time, started volunteering at the Army Thrift Shop. Yep, you guessed it, one day she came home with the bass from hell and said, "honey, look what I got for you". Gee, thanks!

Jamerson's P-Bass was pretty well worn down after all of those Funk Brothers Motown sessions.

WOW! His strat does look real nice. I'm very jealous.

What do most of you think about Fender's "relic" series guitars and basses? I mean, they look cool, but would you ever buy one?

It's a real shame that the poly coating they use on the guitars and basses now will never age as well as the old nitro coatings they used to use. My P-bass (2005 so still pretty young) is starting to show a few battle scars and the neck is yellowing nicely 8).

To the person above me, no I wouldn't buy one of their relics, they are nice but I would rather wear it away through years of honest playing rather than "cheat".
