Hello my friends, I am new here. I have been touring and performing musician for about 9 years. I have a 1973 Fender Precision Bass, which is my main bass that I use. It is what they call vintage, because it is not modern. I need to get new tuners for my bass. I went to a music store and they told me that they only have 1 replacement tuner and I would have to make the holes where the tuners go in wider. I do not want to do this to my bass, I want to keep the remaining holes as they are. Where can I find tuners for my 1973 Fender P bass that will fit the holes? Thank you very much for your time. Your friend, Domingo

Also, it is not a reissue, it is original 1973. It is very old. Thank you very much again. Your friend, Domingo

Your 1973 Precision bass has nickel plated Kluson tuners that are marked "Fender".

Schaller makes a set of tuners that will fit your bass and should not require you to drill any new holes in your bass neck.

I cannot remember the part number for these tuners but they are probably your best bet to improve your bass.
I will try to look up that set and post the info here.

Do you actually need a whole set of tuners or do you need to fix just one of the tuners?

On a bass that old it may be worth it to find a replacement tuner that is like the originals in order to keep the bass in original condition.
this may be more expensive than getting replacement tuners for the bass.
Here is a link to the schaller tuners for your bass:

Here is a Gohtoh set that is less expensive and nickel plated like your original keys:

Thank you very much my friend. These look just like the old tuners. I am very happy that they are still made. It is sad to think that common music stores do not stock the parts that some people will need. Thank God for this All Parts store and it is located in Houston. I used to live in Houston. Thank you very much. Your friend, Domingo
