I'd put this under the general forum, but I need bass players advice.
Please advise. When I play, alternating two ( right hand ) finger passages of 16th notes
at around 90 bpm or higher I get lotsa string slappin the frets noise. If I play gentler, I don't get enough volume. Is it my technique, or does everyone have this prob?

Unless your string height/action is to low, your will need to refine your right hand technique.

Some info. from (please don't take offense from this name) The Dummies for bass website...

....2. Pull your fingertips across the string.

Don't lift your fingers really high and slap them down. When you slap the string, you create a lot of unwanted fret noise. Don't pluck the string up (like a classical guitar player), either. When you pluck the string up, it vibrates over the pickup in a way that produces a very thin sound. Your angle of attack (your strike) should be into the instrument, making the tone full and round
.... (more info. with the link below)

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/r ... uitar.html

This should help refine & maximize your technique.

As I was also thinking, it's likely more a matter of technique than a Mechanical probem from your description. You may also want to try plucking a little closer to the bridge, keeping in mind that this will alter your tone somewhat.

Yeah, I play around the 15th fret, where the strings are real loose. I love the tone there, but I may have to move back to the bridge more to get a little more tension out of the strings. I am also paying more attention to my swing through of the fingers and that seems to be helping, but the volume is lower than when I'm banging away at it. I guess a combo of better technique and moving back by the bridge for fast runs like this is the ticket.

Thanks for the help, guys!
