I believe Flea of RHCP used a P bass at one time. But i'm not a huge fan of his (or slap bass for that matter). A guy once told me p basses were better for slap, and for one reason or another it just seems to make sense to me.

I've never heard of flea doing slaps on the P bass... but it'd sound like a jazz bass using the neck pickup slap solo'ed... I've seen him with P basses on a project band with Radiohead's vocals.. but i thought he uses Js for slapping..

cool tone dude... sounds close to a slap tone of a J bass favoring the neck pickup on a 70/30 ratio

haha i guess you're right.. but most people would prefer that brightness of the jazz slap... but then i sometimes lean more on the neck pickup of the jazz which sounds close when slapping a P..
