Hello all, i have a very very nice MIJ pbass. by the serial number E829235 i can tell it's an '84 to '87 model. In the neck pocket it is stamped PB-562 in black ink, and stamped in red ink there is a PA with a circle around it. I was wondering what these markings mean. I also have a body that i want to use in a project bass that i am building. It is a PJbass that has been stripped down to bare wood, but in the neck pocket it is stamped in the very same style PB-555, (or pb-557...cant remember exactly right now). I was wondering if these markings meant anything to anyone as i would like to be able to Positivly Identify this body as Fender or aftermarket, and was hoping to also pin down a date it was manufactured. My only hopes of getting this done are these numbers as there are no other markings left anywhere else on the body.

I am thinking that due to the similarity in markings, that it is a genuine Fender and would be of japan make from the mid 80's. But im just guessing.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the pb562 is the usa export series. I have 2 Fender Japan '62 reissue basses, the non-export "A " serial made 12- 1984 has pbd 62 which is a Japan domestic bass the other is "E" series with pb562 on the neck and body. The pb62 should be a 1962 reissue, don't know what the 5 stands for, but would like to know. As to the red ink stamp...Don't know, Mine has a red "J". I've compared the two and the "E" series made for export has a much better quality neck with the truss rod whole cut into the rosewood slab..period correct, and has a thicker piece of rosewood with beveled edges (which I love) Fender went to a thinner veneer finger board in 1963. The truss rod nut is also slightly larger on the "E" series. A quality bass!

I have a japanese standard p-bass, 1986 or 1987 model: my neck is a "PB562", and my body a "PB557"

PB562 means that it was used for reissue '62; and PB557 for a '57 p-bass... On the standard japanese basses during the 80s, they used pieces randomly.
I'm 99% sure of this ;)
